The L85A2 over the M590A1 in almost every round, Flash Hider for consistent recoil, and Frag Grenades to clear enemy utility ahead of Sledge's breaches.
Why it works
The L85A2 covers close-to-medium engagements at a level the M590A1 shotgun cannot match; running the assault rifle beats the shotgun the large majority of the time, so it is the default rather than a situational pick. Flash Hider is a universally strong barrel choice: it keeps the vertical climb manageable through a full magazine, which matters because Sledge often fires immediately after opening a surface rather than from a settled position. The Reaper MK2 runs the same Flash Hider for the same reason, with default sight since it doesn't need anything unusual (it has no grip slot at all). The laser attachment on both weapons speeds up aiming down sights for those fast, close-range trades.
Who it is best for
Players who want one dependable Sledge setup for every site: soft-breach a line with the sledgehammer, then hold or push through it with an assault rifle instead of a shotgun's shorter effective range. Frag Grenades pull double duty; they clear enemy utility (cameras, Claymores, deployable shields) the entry itself can't destroy, and they pair naturally with Sledge's vertical breaches: toss one through a freshly opened floor or wall before committing to the line.
Attachment roles: the laser aids aiming speed, the angled grip aids reload speed, and the horizontal grip aids movement speed. Ubisoft attachment rework. Check available options in game.

Put Sledge's loadout into practice
Open a soft surface for a specific line of sight, then use that line to help the objective push. Sledge's hammer requires you to approach the surface, so first secure the space where you will stand. A floor full of holes is not a plan if none of them pressures a relevant defender position.
Weapon and utility choices
The L85A2 lets you return from hammer work to an automatic rifle fight. A shotgun primary needs a deliberate close-range role. Compare a comfortable secondary with the Reaper MK2 by practising the transition after a short burst. Choose secondary utility around whether the team still needs disruption or help moving a defender.
A round plan
Drone the working area, arrange flank cover, and open one useful section. Step away from the fresh opening before inspecting it: the defender below can also use that new sightline. Coordinate the pressure with a teammate moving toward the objective instead of continuing demolition alone.
A mistake to avoid
Staring through the first hole while leaving the hallway behind you unwatched. The vertical angle and the route to your floor are two separate defensive problems.
Try this with a teammate
Choose one defender position below a soft floor. Open only what is needed to see or move that position, then have a teammate attempt the objective approach. Stop making openings once the required pressure exists.
