The same consistent L85A2 setup as Sledge — Flash Hider and laser on both weapons — with Breach Charge over Claymore for the access it gives a team that has no dedicated vertical operator.

Expert recommendation

Written and reviewed by hand for this patch. This is an opinion, not a win-rate measurement.

Why it works

The L85A2 gives Thatcher the same recoil-controlled, close-to-medium setup that works across R6Guide's assault-rifle operators: Flash Hider keeps the vertical climb manageable through a full magazine, and the laser tightens hip-fire accuracy for the close trades that follow an EMP push. The P226 MK 25 runs Muzzle Brake and the same laser as a backup for the same reasons.

Who it is best for

Players who want Breach Charge as the default utility. It opens a full, safe entry hole in a soft wall from a distance — more versatile than Claymore most rounds, since it creates a new line for the team rather than just denying an angle behind you. Especially valuable when nobody else on the attack is opening fresh lines of their own. Thatcher's own EMP grenades already cover most electronics, so the deployable slot is better spent on access than on a second layer of gadget denial.

One common mistake

Taking Claymore purely out of habit. Most rounds get more value from the access Breach Charge creates than from the flank denial Claymore provides.

Situational alternatives

When the recommended Thatcher setup is not the right call.

Utility-focused setup

Gadget
Breach Charge changed to Claymore

Switch to Claymore when you are anchoring a flank or backstopping a plant site rather than opening access for the team.

Tradeoff: You lose the ability to open a fresh soft-wall line for the team, which matters most when nobody else on the attack is creating new access.

Primary weapon

2.5x. The old ACOG. Real reach down a sightline, at the cost of close-range swing.

Reduces vertical recoil climb. Universally good — the safe default on most weapons.

Reduces vertical recoil. The default pick for sustained fire.

Secondary weapon

Handgun

No optic. The cleanest peripheral vision, and nothing to obstruct a close angle.

Tightens the first shots. Best on burst-fire and marksman weapons.

Gadget

Blows a full entry hole in soft surfaces from a safe distance.
